Sri Lanka tea on top again

Sri Lanka tea has regained its position as top quality tea in the world, Sri Lanka Tea Research Institute (SLTRI) Chairman Dr. Jerry Jayawardane said.

Dr. Jayawardane said the Sri Lanka's export tea consisting a lower quantity of chemical residuals was the main cause to win worldwide acclaim especially from countries such as America, Europe and Japan.

"At the beginning of this year, the price per a kilogram of tea was recorded at Rs.280 at the tea auction in Colombo. The current competitive price of a kilogram of Up Country tea is recorded at Rs. 335.56.

The price was Rs. 330.72 for Middle Country grown tea and Rs. 405.64 for Low Country grown tea, he added.
