'Healthy environment in East'
Under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa the government
has created a healthy environment for the eastern people, to lead a
fruitful life facing the challenges of housing within a few months, said
National Integration and Reconciliation Minister Vinayagamoorthi
Muralitharan at the opening of tsunami resettlement housing project
constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) with
the financial assistance of Institute of Arbeiter - Samariter - Bund
Deutschland e.V. (ASB) of Germany, at the divisional secretaries
divisions of West and South Korale Pattu of Batticaloa recently.
The ASB Institution has incurred Rs. 32 million for this project,
which consists of 60 houses.
The NHDA carried out the construction work with the participation of
the recipient of the houses. Each house holder is given Rs. 500,000 to
construct a house.
Disaster Management Minister Ameer Ali, Batticaloa Mayor Mrs.
Sivashakthi Prabakaran also took part at this ceremony.
Disaster Management Minister Ameer Ali said, "Under the guidance of
the present government thousands of houses have been constructed for the
people who are displaced due to the war in the Eastern Province with the
assistance of many Institutions and Organizations.
The NHDA and ASB Institution has rendered its maximum support to make
this project a success. As a result of this support we could have to
construct a strong and permanent shelter.
Under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa the government's
prime objective is to provide housing facilities to the people, to
uplift their living conditions, as the people of the Eastern Province
displaced due to the tsunami catastrophe and the war.
