US Government urges investment in Lanka

The US Government is encouraging US companies and financiers to “Make
Sri Lanka Your Next Business Stop.”
The US Trade Representative and US Commerce Department have announced
an October 13 and 14 conference in Colombo for U.S. investors interested
in Sri Lanka.
“This private-public conference will provide US firms a unique
opportunity to be among the first investors in the newly opened regions
of Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern Provinces,” the US Government’s
export promotion and finance internet portal said.
Participants, the announcement further said, “will meet one-on-one
with Sri Lankan Government officials to discuss specific investment
opportunities. Targeted industries include: IT (internet technology),
healthcare, tourism and leisure, infrastructure, diamonds/gems and
jewellery, manufacturing, processed food and education.”
The trade initiative is the result of a cooperative effort by the
Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, U.S. Department of Commerce and
the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington.
The US Trade Representative and Commerce Department promote U.S.
trade activities and advise on trade policy for American companies.
They have been active in promoting U.S. investment as a means of
bolstering Sri Lanka’s post-conflict economy. |
