Dr. Sarath Amunugama hinted at the possibility of revising the Cost of
Living allowance (CoL) of public servants in the 2010 budget. Responding
to a journalist at a press conference at the Ministry, Dr. Amunugama
said it is too early to disclose details which may be implemented
through the next budget.

“We are still on the ‘Budget Call’ stage discussing with all Trade
Unions and business community representatives to consider their
proposals for the budget.
Next year’s budget will be based on more weight for the capital
expenditure.
It should be a development oriented budget to achieve the country’s
development goals,” Dr. Amunugama said.
The Minister said the country needed a tangible development to
overcome the global economic recession. “We do not take adhoc decisions
at this challenging moment,” he said.
Answering a question relating to a leak of a question paper of the
examination held to recruit officers to the Sri Lanka Administrative
Service, Dr. Amunugama said the paper was cancelled after investigations
carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The applicants have to sit for a new paper shortly. |
