People rejected conspirators - MP
Lakshmi DE SILVA
People of the Uva province who had stood by and dedicated themselves
to the victory of the humanitarian operations in the north, have totally
rejected the conspirators and those who obstructed the humanitarian
operations.
This was shown in the recent Uva provincial council election when the
UNP seats were reduced from 12 to 7 and the JVP seats from 7 to 1,
parliamentarian M. Musammil said at a press conference held at the
Jathika Nidahas Peramuna headquarters, Battaramulla yesterday. He also
said the faulty leadership of the JVP from 2005 has eroded the voter
base of the party.
The JVP in the election of 2006 obtained 29,176 votes but in 2009 it
has come down to only 9007 votes in Badulla and the percentage of votes
lost by the JVP is 69.12. In the Moneragala District during the same
period the JVP votes has gone down from 17,199 votes to 5,632 and the
percentage of loss is 75.23. Therefore the people should not be deceived
by the theories of the JVP leaders, he said. Members of the the Jathika
Nidahas Peramuna Captain Meemal Munasingha from Badulla and W.A.
Udayakumara from Moneragala won the provincial council election but the
JNP politburo has not yet decided whether to accept a ministerial posts
of the council, he said.
The two thirds majority given to the UPFA is like Uva Vellassa
rebellion of 1817-1818 and now UPFA has been given the mandate to fight
poverty in the region and to bring prosperity to the area, he noted.
