International Children's Day:

Programs for IDP children

This year's theme for the International Children's Day will be "Let us build the Liberated Nation for our children".

And more children's activities would be arranged for the children in the North and East including programs for children in the IDP camps, Child Development and Women Empowerment Minister Sumedha G Jayasena told Daily News yesterday.

The main event would be held in Colombo with the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on October 1, with 1,000 children from all parts of the country participating in it, she said.

There would be medical clinics, essay and singing competitions and workshops for the children in IDP camps prior to the October 1 main event.

All the District and Divisional Secretaries will conduct essay and singing competitions with the assistance from Education, Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministries covering the entire country, she noted.
