Take only what is good from foreign countries - PM

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said Sri Lankans are always ready to accept anything that comes from western countries without inquiring whether they are suitable for the country".

"It is a weakness of ours. Therefore people must refrain from receiving anything that is harmful to the culture, our ethics, religion and the ways of life for the good of the country", he said.

He was addressing a meeting following the opening of the new aesthetic hall constructed by the past Pupils Association of Don Pedrick MV, Horana recently.

He said some rich countries say Sri Lanka has been violating human rights. First they must think of them. The Buddha was the person who taught us about human rights. So, we know how to maintain them.

'After regaining complete independence from the grip of LTTE terrorism the people of the country live in peace. We have a long way to go to develop the ruined North and East and to resettle the destitute'.

Horana is a famous place for donors. Many buildings and wards in Horana Base Hospital have been built by the donors in Horana.

Likewise a new building for aesthetic education at Don Pedric MV has also been put up by the Past Pupils association of the school and it is a good gesture for the school.

Horana town is made without a plan. So the government has taken measures to reform under a proper plan and the town is taken over by the Urban Development Authority for its development.

WP PC member and Horana SLFP organizer Vidura Wickramanayaka said as Sri Lanka is a developing country, a prominent place should be given to education.

If it fails, it will be an utter failure. Education should be free from politics and principals and teachers should be given freedom to carry out their duties properly.
