Buddhist discussion

Buddhist public panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be on August 16 Sunday at 10.00 a.m. at its Borella building on “Psychology of Death and Rebirth”. The Panelists are Piyadasa Wattegama and Dr. Basil de Silva with Rajah Kuruppu as Moderator.


Blood donation

A blood donation ceremony to commemorate the 19th death anniversary of Ven. Kotte Devananda thera will be held at Bauddhaloka Mawatha Sri Kalyanadharma Ashramya on August 15 from 9 am to 2.00 pm.


Deva Perahera

The annual deva perahera organised by Walapane Paththini Amman Devalaya is scheduled to be held from August 12 to 15.


Boat service from Colombo to Hambantota

A luxury boat service will be launched from Hambantota to Galle Face Colombo soon to boost tourism, Highways Minister T.B. Ekanayake said. He said a Singaporean firm has expressed willingness to fund the project.

He said it will take only one hour to reach Colombo from Hambantota by these boats.


Body found

The body of a man was found in Delangapatana, Peliyagoda on Monday, police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said.

M.N.M. Shiraz (29), a resident of Malwatta, Grandpass . “He had been shot dead by unidentified suspects at his head and thrown in the Delangapatana area .

The body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem. Grandpass police are investigating.


Help sought for girl

Umesha Nethmi Dissanayake (3) of Kele Amunukole, Eppawala, is suffering from profound hearing loss in both ears. Dr. S.A. Abeyarathne has recommended a cochlear implant surgery to cure her debility.

The surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 2.8 million. Her father Army Corporal D.M.M. Dissanayake attached to the Nochchiyagama camp says he is unable to bear the cost due to his family’s financial plight.

He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his daughter’s cause by sending financial contributions to help the surgery. Contributions should be remitted to account number 4653117 at the Bank of Ceylon, Eppawala branch.
