Britishers for troop withdrawal
Britain: The 52 percent of the British citizens demanded immediate
withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan where 191 members of this
country's army have died so far in this European country.
The Independent newspaper published Tuesday a poll showing that most
British people pledged for immediate withdrawal of soldiers in
comparison with 43 percent in favor of their stay in the Central Asian
nation.
The increasing opposition to the military offensive appeared after
two others United Kingdom soldiers died Sunday during two blasts in
Afghanistan South raising the military death toll in London to 22 in
this month.
This poll contrast with optimism of Prime Minister Gordon Brown who
assured the first step of Panther Claw Operation was successful that
succeeded in moving rebels away of a large area in Helmand province.
According to Independent 50 percent of the people polled agreed the
rebels could not be militarily defeated against 31 percent that
considered their defeat possible.
