Combating threat of terrorism:
Lanka perfect example - Bahrain PM
Three MoUs signed between the two countries:
Bahrain Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa yesterday
commended the manner in which Sri Lanka acted to defeat terrorism and
said this is a perfect example to other countries which faced with the
threat of terrorism.
He said the Sri Lankan Government could achieve this significant
victory due to the firm determination and bold moves taken by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa to eradicate terrorism.
Bahrain Premier made these remarks when he called on President
Mahinda Rajapaksa at Presidential Secretariat yesterday.
He said the Bahrain Government would extend its fullest support to
Sri Lanka to rehabilitate and re-settle the displaced people, a media
communique issued by the President’s Media unit said.
Bahrain Prime Minister said this kind of bilateral meetings would
help to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
This would also facilitate the implement of trade and economic
relationships between the two countries in a more productive manner.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa extended his gratitude to the Bahrain
Government regarding the assistance provided to nearly 25,000 Sri Lankan
workers in Bahrain.
The President also appreciated the financial aid and other assistance
given by the Bahrain Government for development activities carried out
in the Northern area.
President Rajapaksa said investment opportunities are available to
Bahrain investors in Sri Lanka due to peaceful environment created
within the country. Three MoUs were also signed between the two
countries in the presence of two State leaders.
One MoU was signed between Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and
Bahrain Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohamed Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.
Another MoU was signed between Foreign Minister and Bahrain Deputy Prime
Minister to promote economic, trade and technological cooperation
between the two countries.
Meanwhile an MoU was signed between Sri Lankan Tourism Ministry and
Bahrain Cultural and Information Ministry to promote the tourism
industry and bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Tourism
Minister Nandana Gunathilaka and Bahrain Deputy Prime Minister were
signatories to this MoU.
Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris, Keheliya Rambukwella, Anura
Priyadharshana Yapa, W.D.J. Seneviratne and Deputy Foreign Minister
Hussein Bhaila were also present.
