Mystery death of schoolgirl

K.Don Immesha Wathsala a 15 year, grade eleven student of the Panadura Sri Sumangala Balika Maha Vidyalaya died after admission to the Panadura Base Hospital.

Hemantha Udaya, her father told the Panadura police that on July 26 at about 6.30 pm. his daughter Wathsala went to their upstair room for studies carrying a glass of milk. About 15 minutes later she came to the ground floor and vomited.

She was taken to a private clinic but the doctors advised him to admit her to the Panadura Base Hospital. He did as advised but his daughter died on July 27.

When he searched her school bag some drugs (tablets) were found in it which he handed over to the police.

Panadura AJMO Dr. Bandula Abeysinghe performed the autopsy on the body of the student but was unable to give a reason for the death. He recommended that specimens of her stomach contents be forwarded to the Government Analyst for examination and report.

Panadura Inquirer Into Sudden Deaths D.W. Adikaram who held the inquest recorded an open verdict and directed the police to conduct further investigations.
