Lankaputhra Development Bank goes to Batticaloa
The seventh branch of Lankaputhra Development Bank, contributing
towards the Neganahira Navodaya development program was opened yesterday
by Senior Advisor to the President, Basil Rajapaksa MP in Batticaloa.
Lankaputhra Development Bank was launched to boost the national economy.
The Bank is implementing several projects to promote the small and
medium scale industrial sector, among them the Krushi Navodaya, Mahaweli
Loan Scheme and the new comprehensive rural credit scheme. Several
savings schemes including children with attractive rates of interest.
The Bank also offers a leasing facility. The Batticaloa branch will
contribute to the Neganahira Navodaya program by promoting the fisheries
and livestock industries in the Eastern Province. All Sri Lankans have
the opportunity to invest their money with Lankaputhra Development Bank.
The Batticaloa branch will provide a range of services to those engaged
in agriculture. As part of this move, a counter of the Agricultural
Federation Services was opened at the premises. This counter will help
resolve problems faced by farmers while guiding them towards new
technology. Parallel to the opening of the branch of the Bank, a railway
bank promotion campaign also got under way. The promotion campaign was
launched on the Batticaloa bound train from Colombo on Tuesday.
The Bank has set up branches in Colombo, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa,
Kegalle, Kandy and Wennapuwa and is planning to open more branches in
Jaffna, Mannar and Trincomalee.
GSK’s panadol to eradicate dengue
GlaxoSmithKline, through its flagship brand Panadol, said a long term
commitment to eradicate dengue which has recorded over 18,452 cases
islandwide since January. Titled the Panadol Sahana Balakaya, the
program is a dengue eradication drive.
With a population of 700,000 and an estimated 600,000 people
travelling in and out of the city of Colombo daily, the Panadol Sahana
Balakaya, will initially focus on the eradication of dengue in the
country’s most populous city in partnership with the Colombo Municipal
Council and Rotary District 3220 Sri Lanka.

With an initial commitment to supply much needed equipment to the
Colombo Municipal Council and sponsor a clean up drive targeting 27
schools and all premises within a radius of 200 meters of these schools
in highly populated areas in Colombo, the Panadol Sahana Balakaya is a
collective effort by the state and private sector to control the spread
of Dengue in high risk areas of Colombo.
Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipality, Dr. Pradeep
Kariyawasam said, “In 2005 we had a very good dengue control program
targeting schoolchildren who are usually more prone to this disease.
Metropolitan office to be awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification
The Metropolitan Office Ltd automation company in Sri Lanka will be
awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 certification.
The latest version of the ISO standard, which is a globally renowned
standard for quality management systems, includes a variety of factors
such as enhancements in the work environment, improvements in human
resource management and environmentally friendly processes.

achieve the ISO 9001:2008 certification such as Quantum3D and technology
company AddisonMckee.

automation company in Asia to be awarded this prestigious certificate”,
said Deputy Quality Management Systems Representative at Metropolitan

Until the introduction of ISO 9001 standards, no generic frameworks,
that were globally applicable existed for ensuring system wide quality.
ISO 9001 is not a product standard, but a quality system standard.
Metropolitan has now been upgraded from ISO 9001:2000 to this improved
version of ISO 9001:2008.
The ISO ‘process approach’ outlines a practical means to manage key
processes. “Management systems are important because they help control
and manage processes and activities so that time, money, and other
resources are utilized effectively and efficiently. ISO 9001/2008
stresses on principles, goals and objectives. It also ensures that
ouputs meet the customer requirements,” said CEO Metropolitan Office (Pvt)
