SLATL AGM today
The 11th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Association of
Testing Laboratories (SLATL) will be held today in the main Auditorium
of Industrial Technology Institute, 363, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Radio programs to mark anniversary
A series of radio programs to mark the 50th anniversary of University
of Kelaniya in collaboration with the Media Unit of the University of
Kelaniya will be on air every Thursday from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. A half an
hour program will broadcast every Monday 10 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. (Meter
belt 98.3-SLBC national service - Colombo).
Wasantha Udanaya in Bandarawela
Wasantha Udanaya 2009 organized by the Uva Provincial Education,
Local Government and Tourism Ministry with the patronage of the
Bandarawela Urban Council and the Pradeshiya Sabhawa will be held from
April 17 to 22.
This program will feature covering handicraft exhibition, flower
shows, sale of Ranaviru Upahara cards, police kennel show and the New
year festival around Bandarawela town during this week.
Proclamation of hope
The proclamation of hope, the source of inner fulfillment, freedom
from fear and the light that overcomes darkness will be revealed to all
people, on ‘Good Friday’, April 10 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon at the Church
of the Upper Room, 291/1, Negombo Road (opposite Seylan Bank), Wattala.
The preacher will be Dr. Vijaya Corea.
This spiritual experience is open to all.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on ‘Thinking is common to all mankind’
delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at
Anula Nursery School hall, 310, High Level Road, Colombo 6 at 9.45 a.m.
on Sunday, April 12.
The event is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
Meditation for health
A meditation program for health with guided commentaries will be held
on April 12 at 5.30 p.m. at ‘Harmony Hall’, 55, Peter’s Lane, Dehiwela.
The program which is one of the monthly health programs, is organised
by the Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centres, Sri Lanka.
Following the presentation, a guided meditation will be conducted
wishing a healthy life for all.

Gospel meetings
A series of special Gospel meetings and healing services will be held
from today till April 12 at 6 p.m. at the Ceylon Pentecostal Mission,
Rodrigo Place, Mattakkuliya.
Good Friday Service (April 10) and Easter Sunday Service (April 12)
will commence at 9 a.m.
Islamic scholar on ‘Eye’
An Islamic scholar from Saudi Arabia, Dr. Shaikh Wasif Al Kabli,
Advisor to University of Arab League in Aden will be interviewed on
World Peace and Terrorism in the Eye Channel of Rupavahini at 5.30 p.m.
today by A.H.M. Azwer, Presidential Advisor, which is produced by M.K.M.
Yoonus, Assistant Director of Muslim Programs, SLRC.
Anunayaka Thera passes away
Asela Kuruluwansa and Indika Polkotuwa
Anunayaka of the Malwatte Maha Viharaya Chapter of the Shamopali Maha
Nikaya Most Ven. Ambanwelle Sri Pagnnasekara Thera passed away yesterday
evening after a brief illness.
Born in December 1927 in Kotmale, the Thera became the Anunayaka of
the Malwatte Maha Vihara Chapter in 1999.
His remains are lying at the Deeparama Viharaya, Kotmale and the
cremation will be held at the Thalapitiya School ground on April 11.
Death of Ananda Wasantha Nanayakkara
Sri Lanka Freedom Party former Chief Organizer for Colombo Central
Ananda Wasantha Nanayakkara died yesterday.
A strong supporter of the SLFP, Nanayakkara was a former member of
the Western Provincial Council.
His remains lie at his residence No. 65\25 Swarnadisi Road, Nawala
Koswatte. The funeral will be held at the General Cemetery , Kanatte on
Thursday.
Kumara Karunaratne passes away
Popular novelist Kumara Karunaratne passed away at Kurunegala last
Monday at the age of 76.
Karunaratne had carved a niche for himself among the young readers in
Sri Lanka with more than 75 novels written by him and some of them being
transformed into popular films and tele-dramas in the past.
Novels namely ‘Rathu Rosa’ and ‘Oalu’ turned out to be popular tele-dramas
while ‘Wasanthayen Dawasak’, ‘Adara Ratne’ and ‘Arunata Pera’ novels
became popular films.
His wife Prema Karunaratne, sister of veteran journalists late
Dharmasiri Gamage, pre deceased him few years ago. He leaves daughter
Yamuna and sons Prabath, Samadhi, Harsha and Chamara.
The funeral will take place at the general cemetery, Kurunegala town
on Thursday, April 9.
Remains lie at his residence No. 10, Stage 2, Aluthmalkaduwawa,
Kurunegala.
