Ceylinco Insurance appoints Independent Director
Ceylinco Insurance has appointed an independent director to its
board. Kolitha Dharmawardena, an eminent lawyer, has been appointed as
the newest member of the board of Ceylinco Insurance, from March.
The Securities Exchange Commission, had recommended industry-wide
directives to promote greater transparency amongst the corporate
entities and this latest appointment by Ceylinco Insurance, has been
made in compliance with these recommendations.
Kolitha Dharmawardena, who entered the legal profession as an
Attorney-at-Law in 1978, has held numerous positions of consequence
within that sphere, both within Sri Lanka and in the international
arena.
He has been a State Counsel and Senior State Counsel for the Attorney
General’s Department from 1978 to 1995, being appointed Deputy Solicitor
General from 1995 to 1999. He has since been a Private Legal
Practitioner and Legal Consultant.
Dharmawardena also holds a LL.M. in Brussels International and
Comparative Law, while being a Fellow of the Nuffield Foundation and the
Japan Foundation.
