Backstage outlet in Malé

Backstage, Sri Lanka's unique home grown women's fashion accessory brand which broke into the international arena with a sophisticated outlet in Singapore, has now opened in Malé the capital of the Maldives Islands.

An in-store concession opened at 'Evince' on Chandhanee Magu, one of the premier shopping streets in Malé will operate as a franchise for the brand, offering a wide selection of fashion accessories, made famous in Sri Lanka by Odel.

"Although the Maldives has a relatively small population, it has a strong shopping culture and the people are brand and style conscious," said, founder and CEO of ODEL Otara Gunewardene who conceptualized and owns the brand. "The Maldivian currency is one of the strongest in the region and the people are affluent, making Malé a market of strong potential."

"Backstage will be an instant hit in the Maldives since most of the accessories currently available in that market are unbranded and offer limited choice," she said.
