Wilbawe Mudiyanse to be honoured

The foundation stone for the statue of National Hero Wilbawe Mudiyanse Ratte Rala at Kurunegala Wilbawe Rajamaha Vihara was layed by Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardane recently.

”Wilbawe Mudiyanse played a key role in the riot against the English imperialists in 1818. The intensified attack launched by Wilbawe also led the British imperialists to raise funds in England to manage the situation,” the Minister said.

The younger generation must be made aware of the pride of the national heroes and it is the bounden duty of all to take forward to the future generation. Wilbawe always tried to protect and conserve the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa is also keen to protect the national heritages from devastation, Minister Gunawardane added. National Physical Planning Department operating under the Direction of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Ministry will erect the statue.
