During my tenure as the Chief Minister of the NWP, I was able to
re-open 40 schools that had been closed for a number of years, Athula
Wijesinghe, Ex-Cheif Minister (UPFA) for the NWP told the Daily News.
He said under a special plan drawn up by my ministry, computer and
library facilities were ganted to almost all the schools in the Province
inluding the schools in remote areas.
Eight Junior schools were promoted as Janadhipathi Vidyalayas with
all facilities. The Ex-Chief Minister said whoever contests against me,
there is no challenge for me at all. During my tenure 4,000 graduates
were provided with employment as teachers and 2,607 graduates as
Programme Assistants. Recently a cetain group of our own party aimed
certain alelgations against me. But I have no connection with these
allegations.
That is why I was granted the opportunity to contest as the Chief
Minister once agian whatever anyone says Athula Wijesinghe will be the
Chief Minsiter once again. He said that grateful voters in the NWP would
never forget the services rendrered to the province.
Nearly 2000 kilometres of highways in the NWP have been developed by
the Provincial Council during the past few years.
There are about 1500 kilometres more to be developed. The central
Goernment has allocated nearly Rs. 3000 million for the development of
the highways in the province.
In the year 2004 we won 33 seats. The JVP granted their assitance.
But that marraige was over within a few days. They departed from us. I
am sure we will be able to gain a landslide victory this time,” he
added. |
