NCP gets new bus service

A new school bus service introduced in the North Central Province under the Transport Ministry's Sisu Sariya project will be launched by Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma at a ceremony at the CTC hall Udaya Mawatha, Anuradhapura today at 10 a.m. North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake will also be present.

Five hundred buses are deployed on the school service islandwide under the Sisu Saviya project.

The fleet will increase to 522 with the addition of buses to the North Central Province school bus service, a Transport Ministry release said.

The Minister had directed that only buses with sound mechanical condition should be used for the school service.

The Minister hoped to bring the full responsibility of transporting schoolchildren under the Ministry in the near future by increasing the fleet to 1,000 buses this year utilising Rs. 200 million from the allocations made to the Ministry under the budget.
