Thajudeen to lead Havelocks

Former Thomian and Sri Lanka ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen has been
picked as the captain of the Havelocks Sports Club sevens team for the
2009 rugby season.
“Thajudeen has been chosen to lead our sevens team but we have yet to
decide on who should lead our 15-a-side team, said the President of
Havelocks SC Priyantha Grero.
Thajudeen who is an utility player who could play either as fly-half
centre or winger played for S. Thomas in 2003 and 2004 before joining
Havelocks in 2005 and has been turning out for the Park Club since then.
He donned the Sri Lanka Jersey at the Hong Kong Sevens in March this
year and also represented the country at the World Cup qualifying sevens
in Hong Kong in October 2008. Former Peterite skipper and ex-Havelocks
and CH and FC lock forward Prasantha Wimalasena has been appointed as
Rugby Chairman of Havelocks.
Wimalasena who played a key role in CH and FC’s rugby this year and
brought down a coach from New Zealand Peter Michael has switched
allegiance to Havelocks and is determined to bring about a change in the
Park Club’s fortunes next year.
Havelocks finished third in the 2008 Caltex ‘A’ Division League and
were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Clifford Cup knock-out
Tournament by arch rivals CR and FC by 23-16. |
