Ceylon Tea Promotion in Germany
The Commercial Section of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka,
Frankfurt in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tea Board undertook a
Ceylon tea promotional campaign coinciding with the Sri Lanka
Photographic Exhibition which was held from December 4 to 7, 2008 at the
Old English theatre in Kaiserstrasse Frankfurt, Germany. Liquid tea was
served for the visiting invitees and the public during the exhibition.
Ceylon tea promotional event in Germany was timely when the
Government has been seeking the support of friendly countries who are
principal buyers of Ceylon tea encouraging them to remain active in the
tea market to promote tea exports from Sri Lanka and to maintain price
stability.
Germany is the second biggest importer and re-exporter of tea in the
EU. The country imports about 46000 MT of tea per annum of which Sri
Lanka market share is around 13% to the volume of 5500 MT to 6000 MT. |
