This tournament has produced a very high level of competition and brought the best out of the participating teams. This has contributed to the popularity and development of the game at school level. The sponsors Singer who has made a very invaluable contribution towards cricket and rugby in Sri Lanka has been behind the game of hockey as well.

Hockey is a sport that Sri Lanka reached great heights at international level in the mid fifties to early seventies. The generous sponsorship of Singer has been certainly helpful to raise the standard of the game especially at school level.

This tournament has been organised by the Royal College Hockey Club in a very professional manner over the years which has gained the confidence and plaudits from the sponsors as well as participating teams. This tournament also brings about a social reconciliation where teams from all over the island with different backgrounds come together in a spirit of sportsmanship and play the game in the best traditions that benefit the younger generation.
