Dharmaraja College, Kandy, beat the badlight and rain to register
their second outright win for the season when they beat Vidyartha
College, Kandy by an innings and 132 runs in their schools under 19
cricket tournament match concluded at University grounds, Peradeniya
yesterday. Rajans won with 90 minutes to spare.
Allrounder Romesh Yapa Bandara turned in a good performance for the
Rajans whom he top scored with a fine 82 and also polished off the
Vidyartha seconds with 3 for 12 when badlight was setting in and rain
was threatening to come down in torrents at anytime.
Rajans declared at their overnight total of 310 for 6 wickets after
nearly two hours of play was lost on the first day due to rain.
Vidyartha College in their turn at the wickets put up a very feeble
batting performance being dismissed for 88 against some good medium pace
bowling by Tharaka Silva 4 for 12 and Tharindu Dandeniya 4 for 32.
Following on they held on for sometime and appeared to be saving the
match in the fading light but spinner Romesh Yapa Bandara came in
polished off the innings with some tantalising bowling. This was
Vidyartha's second outright defeat as they earlier lost to St. Anthony's
College. Dharmaraja College earlier defeated Dharmapala Vidyalaya,
Pannipitiya outright two weeks ago.
