Mobitel Telports Lankan youth to bridge the gap

Following on the laurels of hosting the Beijing Olympics as one of
the bests in its history, China is the venue for the 1st ever World Mind
Sports Games to be held from October 3 to 18 in Beijing.
Sri Lanka will be represented by a six-member team participating in
the under-28 age group category, in the world renowned mind sports
‘bridge’. The World Bridge Federation has received wide representation
with 72 countries expected to vie for the Gold Medal.
The Bridge Championship worked out on a ‘team’ basis, will have a
preliminary stage and gradual qualification to the final team play-off.
The six member Sri Lankan team will be accompanied by the President of
the Bridge Federation of Sri Lanka as the non-playing captain and a
coach.
Mobitel in its endeavour to promote Sri Lanka is a part travel
sponsor of six members of the contingent comprised a young talented
team, testing the Sri Lankan mind-power with the rest of the world. The
organisers of the ‘World Mind Sports Games’ are the proud and generous
hosts of all the teams participating in the games.
The team selected and approved by The Ministry of Sports after trials
conducted by the Bridge Federation of Sri Lanka is as follows:
Raveen Wickramasinghe, Donovan Abeyewardene, Eranga Illangsinghe,
Indika Fernando, Nirosha Akmeemana, Lilani Karunarathne, Non-Playing
Captain - Y.R. Karunaratne, Coach and Chaperone - Manel de Niese.
The young team representing Sri Lanka at this historic 1st World Mind
Sport Games is a commendable effort and an opportunity as ambassadors to
fly the Sri Lankan flag amongst the best nations of the world.
