A sweet story

Keeping a 90-year-old collection of lozenges without liquidizing in a glass case is not an easy task. This difficult and rare task was achieved by grocer and former ANCL Matuwagala agent M.G.S.K. Melegoda, 60.

According to him this collection that consists of Mini-lozenges in 72 bottles was bequeathed to him by his father.

“My father was also a grocer and this collection of lozenges case was presented to me by a friend who was a trader prior to World War - II”, he said. Melegoda said though several toffee and lozenges dealers had offered him money in exchange of the case, he had refused.
