Weapons found from Vel Cart location in Kandaroddai
Troops in the Jaffna peninsula threw a security blanket in
Kandaroddai village area last afternoon (29) to nab four terrorists who
fled after hiding inside the Makiapiddy Hindu Kovil behind its Vel Cart
with their arms and ammunition.
Troops on foot patrol in the area at about 12.00 noon after observing
a strange movement inside the temple's special hut-type structure where
the covered holy Vel Cart has been kept were about to summon
reinforcements to conduct a check on the suspicious place when four men
suddenly emerged from it throwing a hand grenade at the troops.
Pandemonium broke out as the grenade exploded and devotees started
running in all directions.
The terrorists mingling with the devotees disappeared as the troops
started chasing them.
Troops afterwards inspected the Vel Cart parking location and
uncovered one micro pistol, two magazines, one pistol hoister, one
grenade launcher, ten 40 mm grenades, three night vision devices, four
combat kits, two hand grenades, one unusable hand grenade, two ground
sheets, one Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, one compass, thee
belt orders, one combat T- shirt, three pairs of Army-type boots, two
packs, six water bottles, one mobile phone, one video camera, one
charger, 18 batteries, five sarongs, one bag, three T-shirts, Rs 20,000
in cash, three saline bottles and eight nourishment biscuit packets. |
