Massive weapons haul recovered

The STF yesterday recovered a massive cache of arms and weapons from a house belonging to a Sinhalese in Ambalangodella in the Vavunia district.

According to the Vavuniya Police this happens to be one of the biggest haul of arms found in a single place by the STF.

The recovered items include land mines each weighing over 11 kilo grammes, five Claymore mines, four hand grenades, five detonators, four Claymore stands, mobile phones, batteries and a stock of wire.

The suspect along with two companions were arrested by the police. According to the police, they have been engaged in smuggling these weapons from the uncleared areas for the past three months and the LTTE has in turn provided them unbelievable perks and rewards.

The terrorists have provided them a three wheeler and millions in cash. The police found these aims concealed in the roof.

Meanwhile, Vavuniya Police yesterday recovered over 4 Kilogrammes of explosives hidden in a barrel at the Siddambarapura IDP camp on information provided by the woman who was arrested with explosives on Tuesday.

The woman was earlier nabbed with explosives hidden in coconut shells at a checkpoint on the Vavunia-Horowpathana road on Tuesday evening.

According to the Media Centre for National Security this woman was travelling in a private bus to the Siddambarapura IDP Camp in Vavuniya when it was stopped at the checkpoint. These explosives were nicely stacked in four coconut shells when they were detected by the Police.

The Police cordoned off the IDP camp and sorrounding areas and carried out a search operation yesterday morning.
