Kingswood win 13-7

Kingswood College opened their season with a stunning 13 points (1 goal, 2 penalties) to 7 (1 goal) win over Royal College in their Schools' Singer Shield 'A' Division rugby tournament match played at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy yesterday. At half the Kingswoodian led 7-0.

Royal though making a desperate bid in the dying stages of the game put up an unimpressive display. Their back division lacked penetration and looked very suspect. Their forwards had a better game especially their third row.

The Kingswoodian on the other hand were ably led by Gayan Ratnage and the nippy scrum half Roshan Weeraratne looked very dangerous and made some daring moves but did not have the required finish.

After the turn around, the Kingswoodians increased their tally to 10-0 through a simple penalty fired by scrum half Roshan Weeraratne.

Royal's fight back came after this but it was late in the day. In the 25th minute flanker Hasitha Bandaranayake scored mid left off a ruck and full back Shilendra Chandrasekara added the extra points. Royal 7-13.
