Lanka, Korea MoU for solid waste management project

The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry signed an MoU with the Republic of Korea for the implementation of a joint solid waste management project in four local Government areas in the Colombo District under the Ministry's Pilisara project.

Under this agreement, Korea will provide over Rs. 450 million for the implementation of this project while the Sri Lanka Government will contribute Rs. 150 million. Korea will also provide technological knowhow for solid waste management and put up a sanitary solid waste retainer with attendant technical machinery.

It is also expected to set up a practical training centre for solid waste management adjacent to the retainer. Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) Resident Representative Song-min-Hyeon signed the MoU on behalf of the Korean Government while Environment and Natural Resources Ministry Secretary M.A.R.D. Jayatilleke signed on behalf of the Sri Lanka Government.
