Angry crowd sets fire to bus which killed trishaw driver

ANURADHAPURA: A private bus which collided with a three-wheeler on Sunday night killing its driver was set on fire by people in the area.

Sisira Samantha, 30, a resident of Anuradhapura town died in the crash. The driver and the conductor fled the scene after the accident, police said.

Anuradhapura Traffic Police Palitha Nissanka told the Daily News the accident occurred around 8.00 p.m. on Sunday.

The private bus had been proceeding from Anuradhapura to Vavuniya when it hit the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction, he said.

Inquiries revealed that the bus was driven recklessly. Police have taken six into custody for questioning in connection with the arson.
