'Concerns over Appeal Court appointment unfounded'
COLOMBO: There is no necessity for the judges of the Court of Appeal
to express concern over an appointment to the Post of President of the
Court of Appeal, a spokesmen of the Attorney General's Department said
yesterday.
Referring to the recent controversies that appeared in the media over
this appointment, the spokesman said the Attorney General has
recommended the seniormost Additional Solicitor General to be appointed
as a Judge of the Supreme Court and even that appointment has to be
considered after the appointment of the present President of the Court
of Appeal Justice K. Sripavan to the Supreme Court.
An appointment as President of the Court of Appeal could be
considered only if the Supreme Court vacancies are filled otherwise, he
said.
