Sri Lanka Insurance partners UN to award scholastic excellence
SCHOLARSHIPS: The United Nations National Day which is
celebrated year on year, marked this year's 61st anniversary at a
colourful awards ceremony, held to recognise and award students who
excel in education from schools islandwide.
The awards ceremony sponsored by Sri Lanka Insurance was held at the
BMICH on October 15 with the participation of over 1,500 students from
UNA study circle schools in and around Colombo. British High
Commissioner in Sri Lanka Dominic Chilcott - addressing the audience,
emphasised on the strong relationship between the UNA and the British
government.
He said that the extensive initiatives carried out by the UNA have
delivered positive results to Sri Lanka. He further added that the
British High Commission in always is geared to support the UNA and would
work towards strengthening the bond that has been developed over the
years.
Sri Lanka Insurance sponsored the awards ceremony and awarded
trophies to students excelling in three main categories. Special awards
were presented to Best Project for the International Year of Desserts
and Desertification, Project of the Best Environment, Interschool Study
Circles, Best Teacher's Award. These special accolades were handed out
to students predominantly from UN study circles.
Special prizes and certificates were handed out by the Head of Human
Resources Development, Sri Lanka Insurance Mahesh Jayasinghe. |
