Fowzie asks for fuel subsidy to offset CPC losses
Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie said
yesterday that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation should increase fuel
prices by at least 11 rupees to keep pace with the rising world oil
prices or else the Treasury should compensate the CPC by way of a
subsidy.

Record earnings from gem land auction
The National Gem and Jewellery Authority earned
the highest income to date by realising Rs. 63,384,125 by selling
all lots of the Kaboka and Kattadeniya land allotments offered at
the Paradise Estate Gem land auction held at Kuruwita, Ratnapura
recently, said the Chairman of the National Gem and Jewellery
