President appoints 25-member Cabinet
 

President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday appointed a 25-member Cabinet. Twenty-three non-Cabinet and 29 Deputy Ministers were also appointed.

President meets flood victims
 

President Mahinda Rajapakse, soon after swearing-in the new Cabinet of Ministers yesterday, visited several areas submerged by torrential rains that engulfed many parts of the island during the last few days and inquired after the needs of the affected people.

The overall winners of the NCCSL awards were Slimline (Pvt) Ltd. who won the gold award while Royal Ceramics Lanka Ltd. won the silver award and Dialog Telekom Ltd. won the bronze award. The Stock Market continued its upward movement yesterday with the All Share Price Index gaining 17 points to close at 2,241 points and the Milanka Price Index increasing by 6 points to close at 2,878 points.

Bad weather could dampen Lankan tour opener
 

BANGALORE, Wednesday - Sri Lanka's tour opener against an Indian Board President's XI looked in danger of being interrupted by bad weather which had spilled over from Chennai where the third one-dayer between India and South Africa was washed out by rain.
