Killing of WPC Member:

suspects further remanded
 

Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Namal Balalle further remanded the four suspects in the murder of Western Province Council member Namal Gunawardena till December 7.

The four suspects are Nishantha Udaya Kumara, Sampath Kumara Wijewadena, Mohamed Niyas Nawfer alias Potta Nawfer and Sanjey Siriwardena.

Only Sanjey Siriwardena was produced in court yesterday. The other three suspects to be produced before the Special Court in the Prison Department.

The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) probing the killing of Namal Gunawardena told Court that the dossier of the investigations had been also forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice.

Earlier, the Court also directed the CCD officials to obtain the Government Analyst's report to ascertain whether the same weapon which was used to kill Namal Gunawardena had been used to kill Colombo High Court Judge Sarath Ambepitiya and his body guard.

The four suspects are taken into custody by the CCD in connection with the killing of Western Province Council member Namal Gunawardena on October 11 at Dharmaraja Mawatha, Kollupitiya.

CCD Director Senior SP Sarath Lugoda is directing investigations assisted by ASPs Rohana Jayawardena, Palitha Fernando, Inspector Nuwan Wedasinghe OIC, CCD and a team of officers of the CCD.

Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara with Prasanna Weerasekera and Kingsley Hettiarachchi appeared for Sanjey Siriwardena.
