Royal Park murder accused refused bail

The Colombo High Court yesterday refused to grant bail to Royal Park murder accused Shaymantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha.

Petitioner Preethi Neville Jayamaha, the father of the accused preferred the application. Petitioner cited OIC CID and the Attorney General as respondents.

Deputy Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasooriya objected to the application on the basis of the accused had already been indicted in Colombo High Court.

The petitioner stated that Shaymantha was remanded by the Colombo Magistrate when he was arrested and produced before the court by the CID on July 07, in connection with the murder of nineteen year old student fashion designer Yvonne Jhonson on July 1, at the Royal Park condominium, Rajagiriya.

He stated that his son was following a business management diploma course in Australia and was implicated in the incident while he was on a holiday.

The accused was a student school in Colombo and a friend of the sister of the slain girl, the daughter of a Swedish father and Sri Lankan mother.

President's Counsel Daya Perera appeared for the petitioner.

Deputy Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasooriya appeared for the State.

Hemantha Warnakulasooriya watched the interests of the aggrieved party, the family of the deceased.
