Egyptian riot police are deployed October 22. near the Saint Girgis Coptic Orthodox church in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, following clashes between police and Egyptian Muslims protesting against a DVD release of a play produced by the Church that was considered offensive to Islam. The clashes, which left three dead and some 60 wounded, were some of the worst intercommunal violence Egypt has seen in years, underscoring the fragile religious balance of the Arab world’s most populous country.AFP
