P-TOMS will help strengthen peace process - US

The United States yesterday welcomed the signing of the Post-Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS), saying it could lead to progress in the broader peace process. "We hope the experience the two sides will gain by working together will help to build confidence and lead to progress in the broader peace process," Department of State spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement issued in Washington.

According to the Export Development Board total export earnings from coir mats and rugs recorded Rs 808 million in 2003 and it was Rs 668 million the previous year. The number of pieces exported in 2003 was 210,000 and 169,000 in 2002.Experts say there is a huge demand for coir based products internationally.
