India backs government's tsunami aid deal with LTTE
INDIA said yesterday it supports the tsunami aid sharing deal agreed
between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil
Eelam.
India's Foreign Ministry said in a statement New Delhi hoped the
implementation of the deal would "strengthen democratic processes and
uphold pluralism" in LTTE-controlled parts of Sri Lanka.
The Indian statement said New Delhi "steadfastly supports the efforts
being made by the government and people of Sri Lanka to consolidate the
processes of peace and development in their country.
"India's support for a comprehensive negotiated settlement acceptable
to all communities, and reflecting the pluralistic nature of Sri Lankan
society, within the framework of a united and democratic Sri Lanka,
remains undiluted." - AFP |
