They are trying to create a non-existing rift between the SLFP and the JVP, said Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama categorically refuting the false and baseless allegations. Dr. Amunugama speaking at the ceremonial inauguration of the restoration project of Kandy Lake to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 65 million set aside by the government, he said the lake was a national heritage accepted even by UNESCO. Central Province Governor, Monty Gopallawa, Chief Minister, Sarath Ekanayake, Agriculture, Lands and Irrigation Minister, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Power, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Deputy Agriculture, Lands and Irrigation Minister, Bimal Ratnayake, Kandy Mayor, Kesara Senanayake and MPs Dimuthu Bandara Abeykoon, Navaratne Bandara and M. Muyammil were present. Dr. Amunugama said at Cabinet meetings views of many were expressed and decisions arrived after long delebrations. "Such decisions are accepted by all and are bound to be implemented by all for the benefit of the people and the country. Cabinet members work very cordially. But some sections of the media are trying to mislead the masses by carrying out false propaganda," he said. The government has done a lot for the public's benefit. More will be done in the future. This has been accepted by the people, the Minister said. He said the government allocated Rs. 65 million for the restoration project of the Kandy Lake. Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake said according to history lakes were given a prominent place. In the past a society connected with lakes had existed. There had been a very close connection between the people and the lake, he said. |
