National Advisory Committee for Peace and Reconciliation:

First Political Committee meeting today

The first meeting of the political committee of the National Advisory Committee for Peace and Reconciliation (NACPR) will be held at the BMICH today. This will be followed by the first meetings of the Religious Committee tomorrow and the Civil Society Committee on Thursday.

President, Kadirgamar boosted Lanka's image - Speaker

W. J. M. Lokubandara said yesterday that the credit for effacing the wrong image of Sri Lankans as savages who harassed Tamils should go to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Speaker Lokubandara made this comment when he met Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sidhartha Sumangala Maha Nayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter.

Deputy Ministers Forum deplores Weerawansa's statement

The Deputy Ministers' and MPs Forum has expressed concern over the statement attributed to JVP Propaganda Secretary MP Wimal Weerawansa, which demeaned the dignity of the Presidency and also personally attacked President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga at a public rally held recently.

The distraught wife of the Sri Lankan driver taken hostage by Iraqi militants pleaded on Sunday for his release, sobbing as she huddled with her three young sons in her house in Hendala.
