Hemaka Singer Worldwide's Vice President Singer (Sri Lanka) Chairman Hemaka Amarasuriya has been elected Vice President of Singer N.V, the parent company of Singer Worldwide. While continuing to be the Chairman, Singer (Sri Lanka) and its subsidiaries, he will be responsible for key activities in Singer Asia and Jamaica. He will also be a member of the five-member Singer N.V. Management Committee. Announcing the appointment, Singer N.V Chairman Stephen H.Goodman said that Amarasuriya's election was in recognition of his contribution to date and of the even greater contribution that he could potentially make for the success of Singer Asia and of the entire Singer Company in his new position." Amarasuriya will assume responsibility immediately for career development, management succession and training for all of Singer Asia and Jamaica. He will continue to be a member of the Singer Asia Management Committee. Last year he was selected to head the Singer World Business Council. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM-UK), he also holds a Diploma in Marketing Management and Strategy from the New York University. Joining Singer thirty years ago as Factory Controller, at Singer Industries, he was appointed Controller, Singer Sri Lanka four years later. He joined the Board of Singer (Sri Lanka) in April 1979 and rose to the position of Managing Director in January 1985. He was appointed Chairman/Managing Director in November the same year. While functioning as Chairman/Managing Director of Singer Industries and Regnis Lanka, he is also Chairman of Commercial Leasing Company, Eagle Insurance Company and First Capital. |
