President’s Counsel Ikram Mohamed was inducted as the new President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) by Attorney General K. C. Kamalasabeyson PC at the 30th annual convention of the BASL at the Galle Face Hotel on Saturday. The Chief Guest was President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and the Guest of Honour was Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC. the special Guest was Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya. Newly elected BASL Secretary Ms. Anoma Goonetilleke was also present. Here, President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga with Chief Justice Sarath N. Highest priority for a permanent peace: President

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday said the Freedom Alliance will give the highest priority to a permanent peace. It will try its best to have the LTTE agree to the participation of other parties when having discussions to resolve the North-East issue.

Tax Amnesty Act caused extensive loss to state

The Supreme Court in ruling that the Inland Revenue (Special Provisions) Act. No. 10 of 2003 violated the Constitution has declared that the provisions contained in the Act as amended granted immunities and indemnities to persons who have contravened the laws and defrauded public revenue causing extensive loss to the State.
