Royal dominates schools Tennis C'ships

Royal College underlined their supremacy in school tennis by making a clean sweep of the Sri Lanka Schools Tennis Tournament concluded on the SLTA courts, Green Path, last week.

The Royalists took all five titles at stake, defeating St. Peters in four finals and prevailing over a strong challenge from Ananda in the Under-19 final, winning 3 matches to 2.

Royal won four finals over St. Peters: the under-11 by 3 matches to 2; under 13 3/1; under 15, 3/0 and under 17 4/1.

St. Michael's Batticaloa did well to figure in the under-11 and under-13 playoffs for third place. They admirably overcame S. Thomas, Mt. Lavinia, 3/2, to finish second runner-up in the under-13 event, but was defeated by Ananda, 0/3, in the under-11 category. In the under-15 and 17 playoffs for third place, Nalanda defeated S. Thomas and De Mazenod respectively, 3/2 and 3/1. The under-19 third place was claimed by S. Thomas, who beat St. Peters, 3/1.

Doubles: D. Fernando and S. Senanayake (St. Peters) beat K. Weerakodiarachchi and A. Herath (Royal) 7/4; S. Gomez and A. Subramanium (Royal) beat K. Makandaraja and R. Wijesuriya (St. Peters) 7/4.

Under-13: Royal beat St. Peters 3/1

Singles: R. Dissanayake (Royal) beat I. Perera (St. Peters) 7/3; M. Rajaratnam (Royal) beat S. Vishvanathan (St. Peters) 7/2.

Doubles: E. Sudusinghe and M. Siyaguna (St. Peters) beat M. Hazari and D. Ranatunga (Royal) 7/2; J. Ranaweera and Y. Herath (Royal) beat R. Talwatta and S. Gunawardena (St. Peters) 7/5.

Under-15: Royal beat St. Peters 3-nil

Doubles: S. Sabanathan and N. Wickremasinghe (Royal) beat S. Martenstyn and T. Krishanthan (St. Peters) 7/0.

Under-17: Royal won 4/1

Singles: T. Thivagar (St. Peters) beat K. Jayaratne (Royal) 9/5; S. Sabanathan (Royal) beat S. Patrick (St. Peters) 9/5; F. Emmanuel (Royal) beat K. Sudusinghe (St. Peters) 9/1.

Doubles: G. de Silva and M. Jayasundara (Royal) beat D. Abraham and N. Neydorf (St. Peters) 9/4; H. de Silva and S. Premananda (Royal) beat R. Rodriguez and C. Cabraal (St. Peters) tie break 8/6.
