Literature, art play key role in developing culture - Minister Podinilame

A festival of literature and arts, organised by Wayamba Development Minister Jayatilake Podinilame with the co-operation of Galigomuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Ajith Uduwana and the Director of Education, Kegalle J.M. Premarathne, was held at Galigomuwa Central school in Galigomuwa constituency recently.

Fifty seven schools from the Kegalle district participated. The Minister said that the UNF government is making every effort to enhance the knowledge of the children in all aspects including literature and art. In the aspects of developing the culture, literature and art play a prominent role.

Sri Lanka is one of the few countries in the world which is quite rich in its literature and art and in this aspect Sri Lanka possesses a history running into a period of over two thousand years, he said.

Kegalle Zone Director of Education J.M. Premarathne said that literature and art contribute immensely to development of the personality of an individual. Galigomuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Ajith Uduwana also spoke.
