by Malimbada group correspondent The vision of the 'Ran Dalu' (golden leaf) Project introduced by Sri Lanka Tea Board was to produce quality green leaves of tea for the manufacturing of best tea, and also to end the post-harvest damage in tea production, said the Deputy Tea Commissioner Nimal Udugampola. He was addressing a seminar organised by Matara Regional office of Sri Lanka Tea Board at Lake Resort Hotel in Lenabatuwa, Kamburupitiya recently. Tea manufacturers in Akuressa and Deniyaya ranges participated in the seminar sponsored by A. Baur and Company Limited. Deputy Commissioner said, it is essential to control the quality of green tea leaf to manufacture better teas and it could be done only by the tea producers. The tea industry in Sri Lanka depends on the quality of green tea leaves, he said. Officer-in-Charge of the Matara Regional Office of Sri Lanka Tea Board Y. G. Indrajith said Sri Lanka Tea Board has introduced a new rack system to prevent bruise of green tea leaves while transporting them by vehicles from various places. It was aimed at manufacturing of quality teas, he said. Tea Instructor, Deniyaya G. K. Piyasena, Tea Instructor, Akuressa S. K. T. P. Siriwardena and Nandan Samarakoon of A. Baur Company also spoke. |
