N.U. Abdul Razzak reporting from the Maldives The members of the Sinhala Community who stay in the Maldives marked the Ill Poya day on November 19, at the premises of the Sri Lankan High Commission in Male, the capital city of the Maldives. This function commenced with the Mal Pahan Pooja at 8 o'clock on the night of this day. It was followed with a Rupavahini televised sermon by the Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloke Nahimi. A special musical programme of bakthi ghee was performed by the Sri Lankan musicians who are stationed in Male. At the end of the function some members of the choir were felicitated as they were leaving the Maldives for good after completing the five year substituted services in the Ministry of Education in the Maldives. The Sri Lankan High commissioner of the Maldives Mr. Samsudeen graced the occasion as the chief guest. The manager of the Male branch of the Insurance corporation Amarada Thithagala, Deputy Manager of the Bank of Ceylon (Male branch) Somarathne and the attache (administration) of the Sri Lankan High Commission K. Amaratunga were among the large number of persons who attended this occasion. |
