St.Benedict’s beat Wesley

Matchbags by skipper Dilan Angelo (8 for 51) and Yohan Soysa (7 for 58) helped St. Benedict’s College to claim a ten-wicket victory over Wesley College in their under 19 cricket tournament match played at Kotahena on Saturday.

Wesley were shot out for 74 in 37.1 overs.Yohan Soysa (4 for 18) and Dilan Angelo (4 for 23) took four wickets each. In reply, the Benedictines hit 191 in 65.5 overs with the help of powerful knocks from Mahel Jayalath (46) and Madura Madusanka(67 n.o.). Basith Muzammil took 3 for 44 while Sachin Jayawardena captured 3 for 39.

Wesleyites in the second innings were all out for just 133 runs in 75.2 overs.Sachin Jayawardena was the mainstay for Wesley who made a well compiled half century(62) while Basith Muzammil scored (23).

Requiring 18 runs to win, Benedictines succeeded their target scoring 19 runs for no loss in 1.5 overs. (TJ) Wesley 74 all out in 37.1 overs (Ashail Kariyawasam 23, Yohan Soysa 4/18, Dilan Angelo 4/23, Geethika Jayatilleke 2/07) and 133 all out in 75.2 overs (Basith Muzzamil 23, Sachin Jayawardena 62; Chandana Jayasanka 2/28, Yohan Soysa 3/40, Dilan Angelo 4/28)

St. Benedict’s :191 all out in 65.5 overs (Mahel Jayalath 46, Madura Madusanka 67 n.o.; Basith Muzammil 3/44, Sachin Jayawardena 3/39) and 19 for no loss in 1.5 overs.
