Carlton Supercross in Thissamaharama :

Janaka Dias bags a double, Ishan makes winning comeback

Janaka Dias bagged a double while young rider Ishan Dassanayake made a victorious comeback to motorcross, winning the second group MX - motorcross bikes upto 250cc event at the Carlton Supercross held at Thissamaharama yesterday.

Ishan won the second MX Motorcross 250cc event while Gayan Sandaruwan won the first event of the same category, providing maximum entertainment to more than 5000 spectators who were present at the track.

Gayan Sandaruwan showed that he is the best in his trade and won his pet event despite stiff competition from Ishan Dassanayaka who was placed second and Shehan C Adhikari who won third place. In the second Group MX Motorcross 250cc event, Gayan fell during the third lap but was back in

business, despite Shehan C Adhikari and Dassanayake having a good lead over him. Ishan who had not participated in the MX Motorcross 250cc event for almost two years, proved that he has still got what it takes to be in contention. Shehan was second behind Dassanayaka while Sandaruwan was third.

In the fastest event of the day, the SLGT Supercars upto 3500cc event, Janaka Dias won convincingly ahead of second placed Isharq Wahab and third placed Dinesh Jayawardena. Eventhough former champion Pasindu Peiris was back on the track after a few months, did not find any luck at the 2013 Carlton Supercross as he was out euled out of the contest after a crash in the second lap of the event. Aravinda Premadasa who was in pole position, was also out due to mechanical error.

Janaka Dias bagged his second victory of the day when he won the SL H cars upto 1600 cc event. Veteran star Upulwan Serasinghe was placed second while Lakmal Wijerathne won third place.

Rohitha Rajapaksa won the very first event of the day, the Nissan March upto 1000cc event. He was a dominant force in this category, winning the event on most of the occasions, he has raced over the past few years. At Thissamaharama too, he was too good for other drivers. Ushan Perera won second place while Ushan de Silva was placed third. In the Ford Laser/Mazda upto 1300cc and 1500cc events, results were withheld due to protests by two parties.

In the other events worked off yesterday, Lakmal Wijerathne, Shantha Suraweera, Lahiru Jeewantha, Udika Srimal Malavige, Nadeera Jinasena, Isharq Wahab, Shantha Suraweera, Induwara Senadheera, Jaques Gunawardena Ananda Wedisinghe and Sachith K Samarathunga were victorious.

The Carlton Motor Sports Club organized the event in collaboration with Motor Racing Club.
