Pole collapses killing boy watching soccer match

A 10-year-old student died when a steel pole fell on him while watching a football match at his school in Silawathura, Mannar. Police Media Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena said the incident took place at Kandachchi Tamil School,

Silawathura in Ampara. He said the boy had been watching the football match when the steel pole fixed on the ground had fallen on his person.

The student was rushed to Silawathura Hospital and later transferred to Mannar Hospital. He died on Saturday night, the Police said.

The school’s sportsmeet was held last week. The students had made the tent for the meet. Police said the steel pole used for the tent had fallen on the boy due to strong winds.
