PIM develops university staff in Colombo
The University Grants Commission (UGC) obtained the services of the
Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) to develop a batch of 35
officers representing senior administrative staff of universities and
the UGC to better to meet the administrative challenges that confront
them.

The batch represented registrars and bursars who are involved in the
day-to-day administrative functions of universities.
The programme designed by the PIM included, among others,
administrative skills, achieving personal excellence, effective
communication, social skills, quality and productivity, human resource
and leadership development.
The key supportive roles played by these officers in the conduct of
academic programmes of study is of vital importance.
The creation of an enabling work setting in the universities will
also to a large extent, depend on the level of performance of the senior
administrative executive officers.
Prof. Uditha Liyanage, Director, PIM in his address stressed the
importance of professional development and the key supportive role
played by the universities’ administrative staff in the delivery of
study programmes.
Prof. H. Abeygunawardena, Chairman, Standing Committee on Staff
Development, UGC, in his address described the plans to develop the
human resource base, aimed at career development, professional
excellence as well as productivity enhancement in order to create the
desired changes in the behavior and attitudes of the administrative
personnel in the universities.
PIM conducts a number of executive development programmes for the
private and public sectors in addition to its mainstream programmes of
Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Public
Administration (MPA). |
